The brief was to create a rustic, solid oak, bookcase. Not the sort of thing that you'd go to MFI to buy! After spending far too much time trying to source the timber, and after a round trip into the deepest, darkest reaches or rural North Devon, the wood was found.
What followed was several days of converting what was, basically, a collection of tree slices into useable timber.
The end result was this:
The boards have been sanded to a "rustic" level. The grain and the knots have been left in the boards and, after several months of regular waxing, Briwax for preference, the wood will take on a unique patina which can't be acquired in any other way other than by the passing of time and regular applications of wax.
In a few years this piece will have a beautiful deep shine, and will only get better with age!
Eventually, this unit will take on the colour, character, and patina of some of the stuff seen on "The Antiques Roadshow". This process will take a while, though!
So, if you want a piece of fine furniture that will only get better the longer you keep it and wax it, just call and we can discuss your requirements!
