Fencing Practice...

...or something like that! I was going to try slipping in something like trying not to take a fence, er, offence, no? OK, forget it!

Right, onward!

The brief seemed simple enough, "put up a fence, about two feet high, along the top of our wall please."

Simple? Well, no! The top of the wall wandered about, left and right, up and down, a bit like a footpath that started life as a sheep track. Anyway, a frame was constructed to hold the fence boards which followed the contours of the wall and with the boards attached.

The client was delighted and considered that the fence really tidied up the exterior of the property and gave the whole place a lift!

Job done!

A Future Antique

The brief was to create a rustic, solid oak, bookcase. Not the sort of thing that you'd go to MFI to buy! After spending far too much time trying to source the timber, and after a round trip into the deepest, darkest reaches or rural North Devon, the wood was found.

What followed was several days of converting what was, basically, a collection of tree slices into useable timber.

The end result was this:

The boards have been sanded to a "rustic" level. The grain and the knots have been left in the boards and, after several months of regular waxing, Briwax for preference, the wood will take on a unique patina which can't be acquired in any other way other than by the passing of time and regular applications of wax.

In a few years this piece will have a beautiful deep shine, and will only get better with age!

Eventually, this unit will take on the colour, character, and patina of some of the stuff seen on "The Antiques Roadshow". This process will take a while, though!

So, if you want a piece of fine furniture that will only get better the longer you keep it and wax it, just call and we can discuss your requirements!

"The doors, the doors..."

It seems to be all doors at the moment!

Here's another recently completed project, a complete internal door refurbishment involving new frames and fittings and generally sorting out any recalcitrant woodwork! Anyway, here they are:

There's not much more to say really, after all, they're just a bunch of doors. Still, as the old saying goes, "As one door closes..."

Essential, yes - pretty, well...

It's a firedoor!

Bit of a panic job this one! Can you do it? Yes, of course! Can you do it, err, yesterday? I'll ask the bloke with the long scarf!

Sadly, the good doctor was unavailable to get me back to last Tuesday week, so the door was fitted ASAP!

Anyway, here it is...

There's not a lot to be said about a firedoor, so here it is!

As there was no door fitted in the first place a frame had to be constructed.

The main purpose of the door was to separate the commercial part of the property off from the domestic part, as per the local fire regulations.

Which this one does admirably!
So, should you have a burning desire for a firedoor, please get in touch!

One for the terrier men...

Just the thing for the back of the van or 4x4, or whatever vehicle you transport your terriers in.

This size will accommodate two working terriers, or more if they're very well behaved or on very friendly terms!

This one is 720mm wide, 480mm high and only 310mm in depth at the top, 480mm at the base. It weighs 8.6kg, so light enough to take in and out of your vehicle while giving the dogs plenty of room to get comfortable in!

In transit security is assured by twin gravity secured bolts and substantial hinges on each compartment.

No sharp projections on the inside

And securely partitioned to keep excitable terriers separate!

So, need to keep your Russell's apart in the car or 4x4? Just shout for more details!

Pix from a happy customer!

I was sent these two shots by a happy customer. I'm guessing they're pleased with the job going by the decorations!

Followed by a bit of flooring...
